[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] A woman in her 50s who was hospitalized at a psychiatric hospital in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, collapsed 19 hours after receiving the COVID-19 AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine and was transferred to the intensive care unit of a nearby hospital.


According to Gimcheon City on the 5th, at around 4:20 a.m. that day, a woman in her 50s, Ms. A, was found collapsed in the bathroom of a psychiatric hospital in the Gimcheon area.


The woman had received the AZ vaccine at the hospital where she was admitted at around 9:30 a.m. the previous day, and it is known that she visited a dermatology clinic in the afternoon due to skin abnormalities.


According to hospital officials where she was admitted, Ms. A had been hospitalized for a long time and reportedly had no special underlying diseases.


A Gimcheon City Public Health Center official said, "We are investigating whether Ms. A's collapse is related to the vaccine."


Earlier, on the 3rd, the first severe reaction case in the Gyeongbuk area occurred in Cheongdo County. A woman in her 50s who was hospitalized at a nursing hospital in Cheongdo showed symptoms of anaphylactic shock, an acute severe allergic reaction, about 20 minutes after receiving the vaccine. This woman, who had underlying diseases, was urgently transferred by ambulance from the nursing hospital where she was admitted to a hospital, received treatment, and recovered.


Meanwhile, as of the morning of the 5th, the number of reported 'adverse reactions' to vaccines in the Gyeongbuk area has reached a total of 13 cases since the first vaccination on the 26th of last month. Aside from Cheongdo County and Gimcheon City on this day, 11 cases were minor issues.


On the 5th, reports were received of adverse reactions after vaccination from four people in total: a woman in her 50s in Gimcheon City, and one person each from Yeongcheon City, Mungyeong City, and Chilgok County.
