Seoul City to Recruit 7 Young Artist Teams for Hangang 'Sagaksagak Place' Residency



[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government's Hangang Project Headquarters announced on the 5th that it is recruiting seven teams of young artists to move into the 'Sagaksagak Place' located at Jamsil Hangang Park, who will create attractions and entertainment along the Hangang River.


The resident young artists will use one container unit with a view of the Hangang River as their studio and receive support for various facilities and equipment. After one year of activity, they can apply for a one-year extension through evaluation, allowing them to reside and work at Sagaksagak Place for up to two years.


The recruitment target is individuals or groups aged 19 to 39 with Korean nationality, engaged in creative activities in fields such as fine arts, music, theater, dance, and publishing, as defined under Article 2 of the Cultural Arts Promotion Act.


The resident artists can engage in various activities including creating culture and art-based works, lectures, performances, live broadcasts, artwork sales, and business operations. Although activities involving active communication with the public, such as citizen-targeted programs and festivals, are currently restricted due to COVID-19, they plan to resume these as the situation improves.


In addition to space utilization, various benefits necessary for creation and communication are provided, including networking and collaboration opportunities and equipment rental. The benefits offered include △water supply, internet, signboards, basic facilities, and shared spaces and equipment △network formation and collaboration opportunities with fellow resident artists △meeting rooms, stages, outdoor spaces △professional sound and lighting equipment, and other public goods.


Artists wishing to apply can visit the Seoul Hangang Project Headquarters on the 16th and 17th to submit their documents. Song Young-min, General Manager of the Hangang Project Headquarters, said, “Since its launch in 2018, Sagaksagak Place has been striving to support the growth of artists and allow citizens to experience culture and arts up close. We hope many talented young artists will show interest and participate in this new recruitment.”
