Jeju Dream Tower Protest Site Elevator Control... Xi Jinping Banner Appears

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] The relationship between the subcontractors who are protesting on the 38th floor of Jeju Dream Tower due to unpaid construction fees and Lotte Tour Development is deteriorating as Lotte Tour Development has stopped the operation of the elevator used by the subcontractors.

According to the Jeju Dream Tower Subcontractors Emergency Council on the 3rd, the elevator, which was operating up to the 29th floor the previous day, was restricted to the 6th floor on this day.

It is reported that 42 people participated in the protest on the 38th floor.

The emergency stairs have become the only passage to go up and down the 38th floor, and it has become practically difficult to procure supplies such as water and food necessary to continue the protest.

A representative of the Emergency Council said, “Since there are many people, we do not know what kind of accident might occur. The people on the 38th floor are determined not to come down until the problem is resolved,” and added, “We plan to appeal our current situation and difficulties to Jeju Province, the Jeju Provincial Council, and Jeju local members of the National Assembly.”

He continued, “Lotte Tour Development took photos of people leaving the Dream Tower outside in the morning as if checking their identities and threatened to sue for trespassing,” adding, “It seems they intend to restrict access to the Dream Tower even if the lien situation is resolved.”

The Emergency Council also hung a photo of Chinese President Xi Jinping on the rooftop of Dream Tower on this day to criticize Lotte Tour Development, which has yet to find a breakthrough regarding China Development and payment of construction fees.

They are also continuing their protest at the entrance of Dream Tower.

At the same time, they plan to quickly gather opinions from other member companies, hold a press conference to announce their position, and make every effort to urge the resolution of this situation.

Lotte Tour Development stated that they are working closely with China Development. Regarding the elevator suspension, they explained, “For security reasons, elevator operation to floors with unused facilities has been stopped.”
