[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] For the first time since the start of COVID-19 vaccination in South Korea, a death case after vaccination has occurred. The quarantine authorities stated, "Currently under investigation."
According to the quarantine authorities on the 3rd, a person in their 50s with underlying conditions died after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine at a nursing facility in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province the previous day. The deceased was reported to have multiple underlying conditions including heart disease.
According to health authorities, Mr. A, the deceased, received the AstraZeneca vaccine in the morning the previous day, then experienced a heart attack and difficulty breathing in the afternoon, received emergency treatment, and recovered. However, he suffered another heart attack the following morning, received emergency treatment again, but ultimately passed away.
Mr. A was reported to have complex underlying conditions including heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
Regarding this, the quarantine authorities said, "We are currently investigating the reported case of death after vaccination," and plan to announce the results of the investigation by the afternoon. A damage investigation team will be convened to conduct a causality assessment for this case.
