[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] One person infected with the UK variant virus has been confirmed in Jeju as well.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 2nd that it received notification from the Central Disease Control Headquarters that Jeju patient number 525, who was confirmed positive on the 2nd of last month, was infected with the UK variant virus.
Jeju patient 525 entered Jeju from Hungary on the 2nd of last month, underwent specimen testing at the airport walk-through screening clinic, and was finally confirmed positive.
He was treated in a negative pressure room in the province and was later released from isolation.
Jeju patient 525 was identified as infected with the UK variant virus during a recent full investigation of overseas entrants conducted by the Central Disease Control Headquarters.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters guidelines, no additional measures are required for confirmed patients who have been released from isolation.
Jeju patient 525 left Jeju on the 21st of last month and was confirmed to be staying in another region.
During the epidemiological investigation, all seven individuals classified as contacts of Jeju patient 525 tested negative.
However, Jeju Province plans to further strengthen management of overseas entrants.
As part of this, it is a principle to hospitalize and isolate overseas entrants who test positive in single rooms, and PCR testing must be conducted one day before discharge or release from self-isolation.
Meanwhile, as of the previous day, three new COVID-19 cases (Jeju patients 571 to 573) were reported in Jeju.
