Samsung Subsidiary Harman Acquires US Startup 'Sabari'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Harman, a Samsung Electronics subsidiary specializing in automotive electronics, has acquired a Silicon Valley-based startup in the United States that possesses Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication technology.

According to Samsung Electronics on the 1st, Harman recently announced the acquisition of the startup 'Sabari,' which specializes in V2X technology. Harman stated, "Sensor technology is key to future mobility and autonomous driving," and added, "Sabari's V2X technology will significantly enhance Harman's advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and automotive communication technologies."

V2X is a technology that enables vehicles to exchange information with other vehicles, mobile devices, and objects such as roads through wired and wireless networks. It is considered one of the essential elements of autonomous vehicle infrastructure, delivering traffic infrastructure data like traffic lights and forward traffic conditions to vehicles. The company did not disclose the acquisition price externally. Sabari employees are expected to be integrated into Harman's related departments.

Earlier, Samsung Electronics identified the automotive electronics sector as a future growth engine and acquired Harman in 2017 for $8 billion (approximately 9.37 trillion KRW).
