[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] The perpetrator of the 'Dongjak-gu Delivery Power Abuse' incident, which sparked public outrage due to verbal abuse such as "If you were good at studying, would you be doing delivery work?", has directly apologized to the victim.


On the 24th, the Rider Union, a labor union for delivery workers, stated, "The perpetrator of the 'Academy Instructor Delivery Power Abuse Incident' delivered an apology letter to the affected union member and personally met with the victim to apologize."


On the 2nd, at a language academy in Dongjak-gu, a conflict occurred with a delivery worker due to the perpetrator's delay in payment while working as a shuttle vehicle assistant, and afterward, the perpetrator verbally abused the delivery company's team leader over the phone.


Subsequently, on the 3rd, a recording of the phone conversation between the perpetrator and the delivery company team leader was released on an online community, causing controversy.


In the recording, the perpetrator made derogatory remarks about the delivery worker, saying, "If you were good at studying when you were in school, would you be doing delivery work?" "What kind of hardship do the delivery workers endure?" "The only thing they know how to do is delivery" "They do that job because they can't make money," among other insults.


Initially, the perpetrator was known as an 'academy instructor,' but it was later revealed that they were actually a shuttle assistant helping students commute.


In the apology letter, the perpetrator stated, "First and foremost, it is true that I made inappropriate and derogatory remarks to the rider, and I sincerely want to apologize."


He added, "Recently, I have been going through very difficult personal circumstances, and although this may sound like an excuse, I made an irreversible mistake in an extremely tough situation."


He continued, "Listening to my words in the recording, I felt ashamed because I could sense the emotional wounds and pain the delivery worker must have suffered from my remarks," and wrote, "I am truly sorry as I believe the riders and the branch manager have received deep, immeasurable wounds."


The Rider Union stated, "The affected union member has decided to accept this apology," and added, "What the Rider Union and the affected union member wanted was a sincere apology from the perpetrator. We have decided not to demand material compensation or pursue criminal charges against the perpetrator."
