The Bank of Korea's Personnel Changes in the First Half of 2021... Highest Ever Female Promotion Rate at 26% [Image source=Yonhap News]


[Asia Economy Reporter Eunbyeol Kim] The Bank of Korea conducted personnel appointments for the first half of 2021 on the 28th, appointing Jeong Hoseok as the new Director of the Planning and Coordination Bureau, Seo Jeongmin as the Director of the Information Technology Bureau, and Lee Jongryeol as the Director of the Financial Settlement Bureau. Along with filling the vacancy of the Planning and Coordination Bureau Director caused by the appointment of a Deputy Governor, some heads of main departments, overseas offices, and regional headquarters were also assigned.


Director Jeong, who has experience in the Personnel Management Bureau, Foreign Exchange Operations, and the International Department, is a figure who accumulated practical experience in personnel and organizational matters and planning capabilities through long-term service in the Personnel Management Bureau. He will take a leading role in promoting the Bank of Korea’s mid- to long-term development strategy 'BOK 2030' and overseeing internal and external operations.


Director Seo of the Information Technology Bureau was responsible for providing IT services that meet the demands of internal IT users and improving work efficiency. Director Lee of the Financial Settlement Bureau is one of the Bank’s top payment and settlement experts, having built expertise through long-term service as a practical manager, team leader, department head, and deputy director within the bureau. He was judged to be the right person to responsibly complete pressing tasks such as enhancing the safety and efficiency of the payment and settlement system and developing the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).


In addition, the Bank appointed Kim Jehyeon as Chief Secretary, Hwang Sangpil as Director of Economic Education, Choi Nakgyun as Head of the Annex Construction Headquarters, and Yoon Sanggyu as Director of the Financial Inspection Office. Overseas assignments were also made, including Kim Seokwon as the Washington resident representative, Park Seryeong as Frankfurt office chief, Kim Junhan as London office chief, and Choi Cheolho as Hong Kong resident representative.


The Bank of Korea stated that the promotions were decided through the Management Personnel Committee, composed of executive officers including the Deputy Governor, selecting employees who demonstrated outstanding job performance, high contribution to the organization, and excellent managerial qualities.


A total of 85 employees were promoted: 10 at grade 1, 19 at grade 2, 30 at grade 3, and 26 at grade 4. Among them, 22 were women (1 at grade 2, 8 at grade 3, and 13 at grade 4), marking the highest proportion of women promoted to date (26%).
