Confectionery Division Haitai Confectionery 'Guun Gamja'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Celebrating its 20th anniversary since launch, Korea's first potato stick snack, Haitai Confectionery's 'Guun Gamja' (Baked Potato), has established itself as the representative potato snack through new innovations and changes. As the only stick-type potato snack in Korea, 'Guun Gamja' continued its relentless growth last year with its crispy and light taste, baked on a grill.
The strength of 'Guun Gamja' lies above all in its savory and light flavor, avoiding the greasiness typical of potato snacks. Breaking the stereotype that potato snacks are fried, its success comes from being baked on a grill. With its uniquely crisp and clean savory crunch, it has become the epitome of stick potato snacks loved by everyone from children to adults. It is popular among customers who enjoy potato snacks but are burdened by greasy hands and heaviness.
Since its launch, 'Guun Gamja' has maintained growth every year without a single decline in sales, surpassing 20 billion KRW in annual sales for the first time in 2019. Last year, it set a new sales record with nearly 10% growth. Additionally, its growing popularity overseas, especially in China and the United States, is noteworthy. Exports have more than doubled compared to two years ago, reaching 2.1 billion KRW.
