[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Former Liberty Korea Party lawmaker Won Yoo-cheol, who was indicted on charges of accepting bribes from local businessmen, was sentenced to prison again in the appellate court.

The Criminal Division 13 of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judge Gu Hoe-geun) sentenced former lawmaker Won to 1 year and 6 months in prison and ordered a fine of 50 million KRW at the sentencing hearing on the afternoon of the 21st. The appellate court stated, "As a member of the National Assembly, it was unacceptable to link constituency complaints with improper compensation, so receiving money warrants strict punishment." Although the court handed down a prison sentence, former lawmaker Won was not detained in court.

Former lawmaker Won was indicted on charges of resolving complaints from businesspeople in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, his constituency, and receiving money multiple times since 2011. In the previous first trial, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison, fined 100,000 KRW, and ordered to pay a fine of 25 million KRW.
