Installation of AI Resource Collection Robots in Songpa-gu Parks

Convert Points to Cash Upon Accumulation

Installation of AI Resource Collection Robots in Songpa-gu Parks

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is operating an ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) Circular Resource Collection Robot’ that automatically sorts and collects cans and PET bottles to raise awareness of resource circulation and promote recycling.

Through this, the existing mixed collection recycling system has been simplified, enabling the securing of high-quality recyclable resources and expecting an improvement in the recycling rate.

Synergistic effects are also anticipated with the currently implemented separate collection day system for waste vinyl and waste PET bottles.

The ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) Circular Resource Collection Robot’ is a device that automatically selects cans and PET bottles through a complex object recognition algorithm based on artificial intelligence and then compresses and stores them.

It provides users with points that can be converted into cash, making it easy to participate in resource circulation.

Users insert clean cans and PET bottles and enter their mobile phone number, receiving 5 points for PET bottles and 7 points for cans as a reward.

Up to 200 items can be inserted per person per day, and from 2,000 points, users can register on the Superbin website and receive account refunds.

The district installed and operates one ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) Circular Resource Collection Robot’ each at Seokchon Lake Atelier Restroom and Munjeong-dong Sound Park starting from January this year.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “By introducing AI devices, we expect to increase the recovery rate of recyclable resources,” adding, “As people correctly separate and dispose of waste resources while accumulating points and receiving rewards, we expect waste to decrease and more people to recognize the importance of resource circulation.”
