[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that Samdo-dong Songsan 6-tong has been selected as the 2nd Dementia Safe Village to create a dementia-friendly environment.
A Dementia Safe Village is a project that creates an environment where dementia patients, their families, and village residents can live safely in their residential area.
The Dementia Safe Village in the rural area of Songsan 6-tong was selected through a public contest considering factors such as the population ratio over 60 years old, the registered dementia patient ratio, and the availability of educational facilities.
The Gwangsan-gu Dementia Safety Center will use the Dementia Safe Village senior center as a base to provide early dementia screening and cognitive enhancement programs for the elderly, and will also carry out housing improvement projects for dementia patients.
Additionally, dementia information boards will be installed in the village to deliver disease prevention information.
A district official said, “Starting last year with Wolgye Senior Center in Cheomdan 2-dong, this year we designated Songsan 6-tong Senior Center as the 2nd rural Dementia Safe Village. We will continue to select the 3rd and 4th Dementia Safe Villages and create a dementia-friendly Gwangsan-gu.”
