Adidas Launches 'Ultraboost 20' Inspired by Lunar Exploration

[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Global leading sports brand Adidas announced on the 3rd that it will launch the running shoes ‘Ultraboost 20,’ inspired by NASA’s manned lunar exploration project, the Artemis program, and jointly developed with the International Space Station National Laboratory.

The Ultraboost 20 is a running shoe featuring innovative technology and design inspired by NASA’s Artemis program, characterized by the newly applied Artemis patch developed in collaboration with the International Space Station National Laboratory.

Embodying innovation from space for sports, the Ultraboost 20 allows runners to enjoy running more stably with the best elasticity and comfort, supporting perfect performance, as conveyed by the campaign message “Goodbye Gravity.”

The Primeknit upper that wraps the foot is made using the TFP method, a technique used in spacesuit manufacturing. TFP is an ultra-fine stitching method that reinforces strength by overlaying fibers, providing a precise fit between the foot and shoe for more flexible and comfortable wear, aiding precise control while running.

The more powerful Boost midsole, packed with Adidas technology, offers soft and comfortable elasticity and excellent responsiveness to the wearer’s movements, converting the energy generated when stepping on the ground into explosive propulsion.

The Stretchweb outsole connected to the Boost maximizes the runner’s athletic ability with excellent elasticity and is made of rubber from Continental, a premium German tire company, delivering outstanding grip on various surfaces. The torsion system on the sole enhances foot support during running or landing, and the 3D heel frame at the back securely holds the heel, supporting natural movement.

The Artemis program, which inspired the new Ultraboost 20, is NASA’s manned lunar exploration project aiming to send a pair of male and female astronauts to the moon by 2024. It is the first such mission in half a century since Apollo 17’s last moon landing in 1972, and if successful, the first female astronaut to step on the moon will be born in 2024.

Accordingly, the new Ultraboost 20 features distinctive design elements reflecting the meaning of this program. The left tongue has the Artemis logo patch, and the right tongue features the ‘Women on the Moon Patch,’ each applied differently on both feet. The shoe’s upper, Boost midsole, and three-stripe logo are also composed of colors symbolizing the Artemis program: Earth’s blue, rocket’s red, and moon’s silver.

The Ultraboost 20 is available for purchase at the official Adidas online store, Adidas Gangnam Brand Center, major Adidas stores, and major large footwear specialty multi-shops.
