[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] In response to the aging society, a clinical center specializing in experiments and practical training in audiology, including hearing loss, has opened.
On November 24, the Department of Speech Therapy and Audiology (Head of Department Lee Soo-jung) at Dongmyung University (President Jeong Hong-seop) held the opening ceremony of the Dongmyung Audiology Clinical Center, attended by President Jeong Hong-seop, Park Hyo-yeol, Chairman of Ganaan Hearing Aids, and Kim Hyun-mi, a member of the Busan Nam-gu Council.
The event included greetings and an introduction of the center by Professor Lee Sung-min, Director of the Dongmyung Audiology Clinical Center, signing of an industry-academia cooperation agreement, a sponsorship donation ceremony, cake cutting, and a tour of the facilities.
The Audiology Clinical Center is located in two places on the Dongmyung University campus. Building 1 is Room 307 of the Student Welfare Center, and Building 2 is Room 408 of the Social Sciences Building, separated into two locations.
Building 1 consists of an audiology examination room, audiology test booths, a hearing aid and cochlear implant room, and a hearing aid repair room. Building 2 consists of an electrophysiological evaluation room and an auditory training room.
Lee Sung-min, Director of the Dongmyung Audiology Clinical Center, explained, “Audiology is a somewhat unfamiliar field to the general public, but it is an essential discipline for hearing rehabilitation and medical support in the aging era. The Dongmyung Audiology Clinical Center aims to train excellent field-oriented audiology experts in line with the well-life era.”
The center provides students with opportunities for audiology practice and offers professional hearing management and rehabilitation services to the local community.
It will also be responsible for managing and educating about presbycusis related to the increasing elderly population.
The event was held alongside the 10th anniversary ceremony of the Department of Speech Therapy and Audiology at Dongmyung University. An industry-academia cooperation agreement was signed with Ganaan Hearing Aids, a local hearing aid company representing Busan, and a sponsorship donation ceremony was also held.
The two institutions will carry out projects including providing audiology services, conducting research activities, and exchanging human resources.
