[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] "I want to create a young resort targeting MZ generation (a combination of Millennials and Generation Z) parents by adding the planning skills of the millennial generation to the fond memories of condos enjoyed with family during childhood." (Lee Hyun-ji, CEO of Trinity D&C)
Amid the domestic travel boom caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), 'The Week & Resort,' which claims to be the first urban boutique resort in Korea, has opened on Yeongjong Island, Incheon.
Real estate development·hotel specialist company Trinity D&C announced on the 26th that it will grand open The Week & Resort on Yeongjong Island, Jung-gu, Incheon. The construction company Geonyeong acquired the mid-sized resort 'Yeongjong Sky Resort' last November and carried out renovation work for about a year. Despite many concerns due to COVID-19 variables, they boldly proceeded with the opening.
The Week & Resort pioneers a new type of resort fully open to general customers under the concept of Korea's first urban boutique resort. It boasts high accessibility within an hour and a half from Gwanghwamun, Seoul, and the advantage of having no large hotels within a 1.5 km radius near Eulwangri Beach. Emphasizing cost-effectiveness, it offers price merits compared to luxury hotels, targeting family customers and others.
Most rooms offer unobstructed sea views and beautiful sunsets. Depending on travel purpose, number of guests, and preferences, a total of 191 rooms in 15 types are available, including notable options such as 'Party House' and 'Pet-friendly rooms.' Each of the 15 rooms features a different design, revitalizing the previously stagnant space. The price range is also set diversely.
Various ancillary facilities also attract industry attention. The Week & Resort is designed with an all-in-one concept where all activities from relaxation to activities can be done in one place. It includes Korea's first indoor luminous mini-golf course, a pet park, a fun zone equipped with virtual reality (VR) simulators and the latest arcade machines, and a rooftop where guests can enjoy a 360-degree view of the West Sea sunset at Eulwangri and Wangsang Beaches.
Lee Hyun-ji, CEO of Trinity D&C and head of the resort, is a hotelier-turned-executive who graduated from the Swiss Lausanne Hotel School and worked for six years as deputy general manager at the German boutique 'Mitchelberger Hotel.' The street culture mural art she encountered in Berlin inspired her to place murals throughout the hotel. As a result of commissioning mural works from the young artist group 'Yeopsabu' and artist Park Jin-yeop, a landmark called 'L FOR LOVE' was created.
CEO Lee said, "I was fascinated by hotels, and it was regrettable that many domestic resorts lacked uniformity and distinctive characteristics. So, we introduced a new resort that combines the luxury of hotels with the comfort of resorts. The Week & Resort will present a new paradigm of urban boutique resorts unseen in the industry so far and establish itself as a lifestyle standard preferred by various travelers."
General Manager Milica Markovic emphasized, "To provide guests with unique and meaningful experiences, we collaborated with different artists to showcase art sculptures with our own concept throughout the resort. We will offer heartfelt services that could be called 'heart rate,' as much as hotel star ratings."
Meanwhile, The Week & Resort plans to strictly adhere to quarantine rules for the safety and hygiene of guests. Advanced thermal imaging cameras are installed at the resort lobby entrance and ancillary facilities for management, and the number of visitors to each facility is limited during operation.
