Yeongnam Unification Education Center Hosts 'Unification Generation Empathy Festival'

Exhibition of North Korea Photos and VR Videos Taken by Singapore Arampan Artist

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] The Yeongnam Unification Education Center, together with the Gyeongsangnam-do Inter-Korean Exchange Cooperation Center, will hold the "Unification Generation Empathy Festival" online until the 28th.

This festival, under the theme "Peace and Unification, Generation Empathy," will exhibit various contents recorded by Arampan, a Singaporean media artist, during his visit to North Korea. The photography section is themed "North Korea Seen Through the Lens of a Stranger," while the video and VR video sections are themed "The Daedong River and City Viewed from the Sky."

Artist Arampan utilized his expertise in producing 360° VR content to request permission from North Korean authorities in 2012 to capture 360° VR images nationwide, and in August 2013, he conducted his first field trip to carry out the "DPRK 360 Project."

In particular, Arampan self-funded most of the project and visited North Korea a total of 19 times over six years, collecting thousands of unique panoramic views of North Korea.

This exhibition displays the digital content recorded by the artist, including "The Lives and Culture of North Korean Residents" and "The South and North Seen by Foreigners, and Unification," aiming to provide accurate awareness of North Korea and help improve biased perceptions influenced by existing political and social atmospheres. It is also expected to contribute to the dissemination and expansion of immersive cultural content education and experiential content.
