[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Teragen Bio announced on the 26th that a consortium consisting of three companies, Macrogen, DNALink, and Teragen Bio, has been selected as the final operator of the 'National Bio Big Data Construction Pilot Project (K-DNA)'.
The National Bio Big Data Construction Pilot Project is a cross-ministerial initiative by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to build clinical information and genomic data of more than 20,000 people over two years.
The three-company consortium recently held an official working-level meeting and finalized the basic elements for project progress. Starting next month, they will begin receiving collected specimens and actively analyze genomic data.
The consortium reportedly received high scores in all areas of technical capability evaluation during the operator selection process, including experiments, data production and quality control, and security matters.
Hwang Tae-soon, CEO of Teragen Bio, explained, "The final selection as the project operator is the result of recognizing the genomic data production experience and technological capabilities of the three companies, which have led the domestic NGS market and improved related technologies to an advanced country level."
