[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] To prevent the use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computers for military purposes, the Japanese government is considering creating a new export control system.
According to major foreign media on the 27th, the Japanese government is promoting a plan for countries possessing advanced technologies to form an alliance.
The Japanese government has proposed the new system to the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and others, planning to establish an export control system for four fields: ▲AI and machine learning ▲quantum computers ▲bio ▲hypersonics.
Currently, export regulations on defense-related strategic materials are managed under an international export control system. Countries around the world participate and operate through regular discussions and decisions. Because dozens of countries participate, decision-making takes a long time.
The Japanese government plans to limit participating countries to a few in order to discuss issues promptly and decide on regulated items within a short period.
