[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Hyundai Motor Company is set to prove the performance of its high-performance brand N at the N?rburgring in Germany, known for its harsh driving conditions.
Hyundai announced on the 25th that three models from its high-performance brand N will participate in the '2020 N?rburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race' held at the N?rburgring circuit in Germany from the 26th to the 27th (local time). Participating for the fifth consecutive year, Hyundai will field its entire high-performance N lineup, including the ‘i30 N TCR’, ‘Veloster N TCR’, and ‘i30 Fastback N’, in the N?rburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race, following last year’s entry.
Especially this year, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Hyundai plans to operate a 24-hour live streaming of the race from the 26th through the Hyundai Driving Academy website for fans worldwide who cannot attend the event in person.
The N?rburgring circuit is approximately 25 km long, consisting of 73 corners. It is called the ‘Green Hell’ due to its narrow road width, significant elevation changes, and various sharp curves, making it a harsh driving environment.
This year’s race features a total of 103 vehicles across 21 classes. Rankings are determined by the distance covered by each vehicle over 24 hours. Despite the notoriously harsh driving conditions resulting in a completion rate of only about half, Hyundai has successfully finished with all its models from 2016 through last year.
A Hyundai official stated, “The entire high-performance brand N lineup, which embodies our efforts in motorsports and high-performance vehicle development, is challenging the notoriously demanding N?rburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race.” He added, “Due to COVID-19, it is difficult to invite fans directly this year, so we will join them through a 24-hour live streaming event of the race.”
