Guidance by Fast Food, Cafe, and Transportation Booking Types
Online Training on Kiosk Usage Also Provided
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On the 25th, KT announced that it will distribute a free educational app for seniors who have difficulty using kiosks (unmanned terminals).
Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the number of stores introducing kiosks for non-face-to-face transactions is increasing, but the elderly are having difficulty using the devices. According to a recent survey by the Korea Consumer Agency targeting consumers aged 65 and older who have experience with non-face-to-face transactions over the past year, more than half (51.5%) of the 245 respondents who experienced kiosks cited "complex steps" as the most difficult aspect. A significant number (49%) also answered that "when time is delayed, they feel pressured by the people waiting behind."
The kiosk educational app is designed to allow users to experience kiosks used in fast food, cafes, transportation ticketing, ATMs, unmanned civil service issuance, and hospitals by type. The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
In addition, KT IT Supporters have added an online "How to Use Kiosks" training course for seniors in collaboration with 124 welfare institutions nationwide, including the Seoul Senior Welfare Center. Offline training courses will be opened in the future, and kiosk instructors will be trained in cooperation with the Korea Senior Human Resources Development Institute and the National Science Museum.
Kim Mugwan (81), who participated in the non-face-to-face kiosk training, said, "After experiencing and learning how to operate the kiosk through the training, my fear of using kiosks has greatly diminished, and I think I will be able to use them conveniently in the future."
Lee Seonju, Head of KT's Sustainability Management Division (Senior Executive Director), said, "As digitalization in our society has expanded after COVID-19, the digital divide is also widening. KT will actively support not only this kiosk educational app but also ensure that the elderly are not excluded from the digital society and can enjoy a more convenient and safe life."
