'Group Sexual Assault Charges' Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon, Final Verdict Today

[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] The Supreme Court will deliver its final verdict on singer Jung Joon-young and former FT Island member Choi Jong-hoon, who were sentenced to prison in both the first and second trials for charges of gang rape.

On the morning of the 24th, the Supreme Court's 2nd Division will hold a sentencing hearing for the appeals of Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon, who were indicted for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, including special rape.

Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon are accused of gang raping women who were intoxicated in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province in January 2016 and in Daegu in March of the same year, along with members of a group chat. In particular, Jung Joon-young is also charged with distributing illegally filmed videos 11 times, including sending videos showing sexual relations with women in a chatroom involving celebrities at the end of 2015.

The first trial recognized the credibility of the victims' testimonies and found them guilty, sentencing Jung Joon-young to six years in prison and Choi Jong-hoon to five years. The second trial also upheld all charges against them, similar to the first trial. However, considering factors such as reaching a settlement with the victims, Choi Jong-hoon's sentence was reduced to two years and six months, and Jung Joon-young was sentenced to five years in prison.
