[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Statistics Korea announced on the 23rd that it will hold the "10th National Statistics Methodology Symposium" online via live streaming from the 23rd to the 24th to advance national statistics and prepare for the future.
At this 10th anniversary symposium, under the theme "The Present and Future of National Statistics," participants will review the current challenges faced by national statistics, such as the deterioration of survey environments and the emergence of new data, and discuss future directions and alternatives for national statistics.
Byun Jongseok, President of the Korean Survey Research Association, will present survey methodologies responding to the new environment in the keynote lecture on the first day titled "The Evolution of Survey Design." On the second day, Professor Park Sungwook of Hanbat National University will present on "Paradigm Shift in the Data Economy Era and New GDP," addressing economic changes due to the rapid expansion of data and possible alternatives.
Additionally, researchers from the public, private, and academic sectors will actively participate in discussions across six subtopics, including survey methodology, personal information protection techniques, data science, and the data economy.
Over two days, national statistics researchers will present about 25 posters, and online viewers can exchange real-time questions and opinions through the symposium's dedicated website.
Kang Shinwook, Commissioner of Statistics Korea, stated, "Through this National Statistics Methodology Symposium, Statistics Korea will lead the advancement and development of national statistics by listening to the research experiences and knowledge of various experts, as well as the opinions of statistics users and producers, to improve and develop national statistics, enhance quality, provide and utilize data, and protect personal information."
Following this, Jeon Youngil, President of the Statistics Development Institute, emphasized, "We will lead future innovations in national statistics through proactive research that applies data science and artificial intelligence."
Meanwhile, this symposium has been held annually since 2011 as a forum where government agencies, academia, research institutions, and data users share research experiences and expertise.
