From October, Resident-Priority Parking System to Open 30 Spaces After User Recruitment
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jung Soon-gyun) signed a business agreement on the 1st to open and share the Hyundai Department Store Trade Center branch and its attached parking lot located in Samseong-dong, and will open it from October using a resident-priority parking system.
This public-private cooperation parking lot sharing project aims to alleviate the expected local parking shortage due to the closure of the Tancheon parking lot as part of the ‘International Exchange Complex District’ development project by the end of this year. It is the first case where Gangnam-gu directly operates a company’s attached parking lot.
The district plans to start with 30 parking spaces in the attached parking lot of Hyundai Department Store Trade Center branch and flexibly increase the number of open spaces according to user demand.
The opened attached parking lot will be allocated to users who apply in advance through the Gangnam-gu Urban Management Corporation. Gangnam-gu residents can use it for 20,000 KRW per month, and local office workers for 30,000 KRW. The opening hours are from 7 PM to 10 AM the next day.
Since last year, Gangnam-gu has been actively working to overcome the limitations of parking space supply in the city center through the ‘Attached Parking Lot Opening and Sharing Project,’ addressing parking shortages by sharing idle parking spaces of companies and general buildings.
