[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] On the 26th, Heo Seong-mu, Mayor of Changwon City, visited Jinhae Station, which is being promoted as part of the Chungmu District Urban Regeneration New Deal Project in Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, to inspect the site.

Mayor Heo met with related personnel including Bae Suk-ja, Chairperson of the Chungmu District Residents' Council, Hong Seong-cheol, Director of the Jinhae Cultural Center, and Kang Su-chan, President of the Jinhae Federation of Arts and Culture, to listen to their opinions and toured the site.

The Chungmu District Urban Regeneration New Deal Project is a central urban area-type urban regeneration new deal project investing 25 billion KRW over five years in an area of 230,000㎡ covering Chungmu-dong, Jungang-dong, and Yeoja-dong. The project aims for completion in the first half of 2023. In particular, the complex construction of the Jinhae Cultural Center is expected to create synergy as an innovative hub space for culture, lifestyle, and tourism.

The ‘Jinhae Cultural Platform 1926 Development Project’ is one of the three core unit projects of the Chungmu District Urban Regeneration New Deal Project. It involves restoring Jinhae Station and creating a plaza, a tourist information center, the Hanaro Connection Center, and the Jinhae Culture Development Center on 10,741㎡ around the Jinhae Station plaza in Jinhae-gu.

With the establishment of various cultural performance venues, it is gaining attention as a successful model of the ‘Changwon-type Convergent Urban Regeneration Project’ where local residents can enjoy cultured lifestyles with dignity.

Mayor Heo said, “The organic combination of various urban regeneration programs centered on an open plaza with stories and the traditional cultural programs of the Jinhae Cultural Center will have the effect of attracting diverse age groups, becoming a starting point for revitalizing the Chungmu District commercial area and attracting external tourists.”
