September 23-28: 91.4% of Total Enrollment at Usual Levels for Rolling Admissions
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongmyeong University announced the scale and guidelines for next year's college admission early decision recruitment on the 11th.
They will select 1,663 students, which is 91.4% of the total quota, and 234 students outside the quota. The application period is from September 23 to 28.
The university recommends targeting the early decision round, stating that most departments do not apply the minimum CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) score requirements.
The minimum CSAT score requirement applies only to the Department of Nursing and the Department of Military Science. For Nursing, the sum of the grades of two subjects among four CSAT areas (Korean, English, Math, and Inquiry) must be within 9 grades (only one subject is counted in the Inquiry area). However, if Math Type 'Ga' is taken, the sum must be within 10 grades. For Military Science, the sum of the grades of two subjects among the four CSAT areas must be within 10 grades (only one subject counted in Inquiry). If Math Type 'Ga' is taken, the sum must be within 11 grades.
From the 2021 academic year admissions, the method of reflecting school records added a second foreign language. Among Korean, English, Math, Social Studies (including Korean History), Science, and Second Foreign Language subjects, the top 8 subjects are reflected (with Korean, English, and Math being mandatory 3 subjects). Subject duplication is allowed, and credit hours are not considered.
The Creative Talent (Teacher Recommendation) track, which is a comprehensive student record screening, allows applicants if non-academic activities (attendance, awards, certifications, creative experiential activities, reading activities, etc.) are recorded in the student record, and requires submission of a teacher recommendation letter in Dongmyeong University’s format. For prospective graduates, the high school submits a collective recommendation. The Creative Talent (Teacher Recommendation) track evaluates 40% on academic records and 60% on non-academic areas.
The SW Talent track (30 students) for selecting outstanding talents in the AI Department evaluates SW capabilities comprehensively rather than academic grades. Final registrants receive a full scholarship for the first semester tuition of the 2021 academic year, making it attractive for examinees aspiring to become SW experts.
The interview is an oral test evaluating examinees’ university aptitude and qualities. About 8 common questions are disclosed on the website beforehand without distinction by department or field, and on the test day, interviewers ask 2-3 questions from the pre-disclosed set.
Since the interview focuses on personality and character, there is no need to be overly burdened. The interview is conducted right after the CSAT, so if the CSAT score is good, applicants can also try the regular admission.
The Department of Military Science, the only one in the Busan-Ulsan area, will select 27 students in this early decision round. The evaluation consists of 60% school records, 20% interview, and 20% physical fitness test. The physical fitness test includes three events: 1.5 km run (1.2 km for women), sit-ups, and push-ups.
The university also encourages applicants to challenge unique and promising departments.
The AI Convergence College, selected for the 'Software (SW) Specialized University Support Project,' is the region’s first AI department, nurturing specialized and convergent talents in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution and contributing to spreading the value of software in the local community.
The newly established Department of Aviation Service in 2021 is also noteworthy. It is a major that forms the foundation for expanding aviation demand in the southeastern region and the leap of Busan as an international tourism city.
The Department of Military Science, the only one in the Busan-Ulsan area, cultivates military experts and is regarded as a cradle for officer training, commissioning graduates as officers in the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps immediately upon graduation.
To improve English conversation skills, native-speaking professors provide dedicated education within the department, enabling overseas study and joint operations, and a graduation certification system has been introduced that sets short-term goals for each grade and semester.
