Daegu City Adds 'Chiya' to Chimaek Festival Character 'Chiking'... This Year's Festival Canceled

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 6th that it has added a new character (Chiya) to the existing Chimaek Festival character (Chiking) and installed sculptures at Dongdaegu Station Plaza.

According to the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Design Center Foundation, which was involved in the production, Chiking is a male character with a blunt and macho appearance who seems aggressive but has a clumsy side, while Chiya is a female character with a charismatic strong sister image, boasting a proud and chic style.

The newly developed Chimaek characters have been made into sculptures in various poses and displayed at Dongdaegu Station Plaza, the gateway to Daegu, to soothe the disappointment of the Chimaek Festival canceled due to COVID-19 and to ensure continuous promotion until next year’s festival.

The Korea Chimaek Industry Association, the organizer of the Chimaek Festival, will hold a concept photo contest with the theme of 'summer' using the character sculptures installed at Dongdaegu Station Plaza starting from the 10th. For more details, please refer to the Daegu Chimaek Festival website.

Meanwhile, the '2020 Daegu Chimaek Festival' was postponed from July 1 to August 26 due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic but was eventually canceled.
