In Busan Underground Parking Lot, Car Hits Pillar with a 'Bang'...Driver Says "Car Suddenly Jolted Forward"

[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Around 1:10 PM on the 6th, a vehicle driven by a man in his 60s, Mr. A, crashed into a pillar in the underground parking lot of a villa in Dongnae-gu, Busan.

As a result of the accident, driver Mr. A sustained injuries to his head after hitting the front windshield of the vehicle.

Mr. A told the police, "After starting the engine, the car suddenly surged forward and experienced sudden unintended acceleration."

He said that since the vehicle's gear was in the parking (P) position and it suddenly moved, he hit the pillar to avoid a foreign car.

According to the police, after the accident, when an insurance company official who arrived at the scene tried to start the car, the engine overheated and emitted smoke, prompting the 119 fire brigade to respond and extinguish it.

The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
