Jungnang-gu 'Online Walking Challenge' Underway

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is conducting an ‘Online Walking Challenge’ until the 29th for residents whose activity levels have decreased due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

This challenge is a non-face-to-face event using the mobile walking app ‘WalkOn’ and will run for four weeks. It is designed to relieve physical and mental stress and boost immunity through small physical activities alone or with family, aiming to find happiness in daily life.

Residents who wish to participate can walk more than 5,000 steps and complete missions while practicing social distancing measures such as maintaining safe distances and wearing masks on the designated dates of the walking challenge at Jungnang-gu’s representative walking courses: Jangmi-gil (~6.7), Yongmasan (6.8~6.14), Bonghwasan (6.15~6.21), and Mangwoo History and Culture Park (6.22~6.28).

To complete the missions, participants must install the ‘WalkOn’ app on their smartphones, join the official Jungnang-gu walking community ‘GilGilGil Darae Jungnang Han Bakwi,’ and upload a ‘thumbs-up’ verification photo on the community board. The photos must include landmarks such as the Jungnangcheon stream and roses on Jangmi-gil, the mental health sign on Yongmasan, the Bonghwasan beacon mound on Bonghwasan, and the celebrity information wall at Mangwoo History and Culture Park.

Additionally, the district will hold various events, including giving gifticons to the first 50 residents who participate every Tuesday.

After the walking photo challenge in June, the district plans to continue online walking events through ‘WalkOn,’ such as ‘Achieving Step Goals,’ ‘Virtual Walks on Jungnang Dulle-gil and Market Streets,’ and ‘Jungnang-gu Walking King,’ to naturally promote everyday walking.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “The psychological depression caused by COVID-19 can be relieved through participation in this online walking challenge,” and added, “I hope residents will continue physical activities such as walking stairs, getting off one station earlier to walk, and taking walks whenever possible in daily life.”
