TV Home Shopping Gwangyang Maesil Promotion Support of 13 Million Won per Session


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City announced on the 29th that it will launch promotional and sales activities to widely publicize the excellence of Gwangyang Maesil through TV home shopping, coinciding with the peak Maesil harvest season.


Starting with the NS Home Shopping broadcast on June 1st, a total of 8 sessions will be held until the end of June on Public Home Shopping and NS Home Shopping, selling strictly selected green Maesil, Namgo Maesil, yellow Maesil, and Maesil preserved in syrup.


Gwangyang City provides a subsidy of 13 million KRW per home shopping session to the Nonghyup Gwangyang branch to support home shopping promotions, with a total budget of 130 million KRW to support agricultural product sales. After the Maesil home shopping sales conclude, other agricultural and specialty products will be sold.


Gwangyang Maesil is registered as Geographical Indication No. 36 and has been recognized as a premium Maesil, receiving the Korea Consumer Trust Brand Award from the Korea Brand Management Association for five consecutive years since 2015.


Maesil is rich in minerals, vitamins, and organic acids, which are effective for fatigue recovery, detoxification, and aiding digestion. The city initiated TV home shopping to help Maesil farmers facing difficulties in the region due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, which caused cancellations of various festivals, direct markets, and expos, and the rise of non-face-to-face consumption culture.


Kang Geum-ho, Director of Agricultural Product Marketing, said, “This is a great opportunity to introduce and sell local agricultural and specialty products to consumers nationwide through TV home shopping,” adding, “We will continue to strive to promote and sell Gwangyang’s excellent agricultural and specialty products through various distribution channels.”
