Incheon City Distributes Tumblers and Coffee Coupons to Citizens Participating in the 'Barista Challenge' on TikTok for Two Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City is launching the 'Enjoyable Recycling Campaign' together with trot singer Youngtak.
The city will hold a citizen participation event called the '#Burista Challenge' for two months from June 29 to July 28, allowing citizens to naturally learn and practice proper recycling methods.
The Burista Challenge, meaning "Let's properly dispose of every piece of trash and reduce waste so that we all become stars of the Earth," is a public campaign where trot singer Youngtak posts a parody video on TikTok that combines his hit song "Niga Wae Geogiseo Nawa" with "proper recycling methods," and citizens respond with videos on the same theme using the same song.
Citizens participating in the Burista Challenge can upload their self-produced videos on TikTok with hashtags such as '#BuristaChallenge' and '#IncheonRecyclingCampaign'.
The city will provide Incheon tumblers to 50 participants and coffee coupons to 100 participants who join the Burista Challenge by June 28.
Although South Koreans have high awareness and participation rates regarding the importance of recycling, the recycling rate remains low due to improper recycling practices. The city planned this campaign with the aim of increasing citizens' understanding of proper recycling methods and creating a recycling role model in Incheon.
Baek Sanghyun, Incheon City's Communication Planning Officer, said, "With the increase in delivery food consumption due to COVID-19, the disposal of single-use products has exploded," adding, "We hope citizens naturally become recycling experts through this campaign."
