[Asia Economy Reporters Kang Nahum and Wondara] Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 29th, "I hope for the cooperation of the United Future Party so that the new National Assembly can begin with a regular session opening."
At the Democratic Party's Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Floor Leader Kim said, "The 21st National Assembly must break away from past wrong practices and establish a new tradition of abiding by the National Assembly Act."
He continued, "The United Future Party declared a break from the past at the elected members' workshop. Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman, has also been emphasizing radical changes day after day," adding, "The changes in the United Future Party must lead to the creation of a new National Assembly."
Regarding the meeting between President Moon Jae-in and the floor leaders of the ruling and opposition parties, Floor Leader Kim evaluated it as "a very meaningful occasion to narrow the gaps between each other."
He added, "As the president said, the opposition party should meet frequently as a partner in state affairs without being bound by formalities. I hope the ruling and opposition parties meet often. In the National Assembly, I will cooperate with the opposition party for politics of coexistence and cooperation."
Regarding the third supplementary budget bill, he said, "It must be a sufficiently sized supplementary budget to protect jobs and people's livelihoods. The active role of finance should create a virtuous cycle in the economy," and added, "The Democratic Party will boldly inject finances in cooperation with the government while preparing the supplementary budget meticulously. We will strive for timely execution of the third supplementary budget."
Concerning the spread of COVID-19 infections at the Coupang logistics center, he said, "This clearly shows how great a crisis can come if there is a momentary lapse or poor management," and urged, "I hope this incident becomes an opportunity for all companies to conduct self-inspections."
