Busan City, Noroo Paint, and Architects Association Continue Resource and Talent Donation Campaign
Volunteers participating in last year's 'White Roof' project are painting rooftop roofs with white paint.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The 'White Roof Installation Support Project,' carried out through donations of funds and talents, will continue in Busan this year as well.
The White Roof Installation Support Project is a public-private collaboration aimed at reducing greenhouse gases from buildings, mitigating urban heat island effects, and realizing low-carbon green architecture by installing white roofs on existing residential buildings.
A white roof is a construction method that applies a bright-colored coating with sunlight and solar heat reflection effects to the roof, lowering indoor temperatures by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius.
Last year, Busan City signed a business agreement with Noroo Paint and the Busan Architectural Society to lay the foundation for a fund and talent donation campaign to help vulnerable groups have a healthy summer.
This year, Noroo Paint will support construction materials such as heat-reflective special paint, and the Busan Architectural Society will be responsible for roof construction. Busan City has selected 19 facilities, including senior centers in 8 districts, as project sites this year. The plan is to complete all construction by early June, before the peak heat season begins.
A Busan City official said, “Once the white roofs are installed, it is expected to lower indoor temperatures of buildings, save cooling energy during summer, and reduce greenhouse gases.”
