Installation of LED Floor Traffic Lights at 3 Crosswalks Near Konkuk Univ. Station, Gangbyeon Station, and Achasan Station... 43 Pedestrian Signal Voice Announcers Installed at Crosswalks Near Local Government Offices and Subway Stations
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has installed ‘LED floor traffic lights’ and ‘pedestrian signal voice guides’ at crosswalks in the area to enhance pedestrian safety for those using smartphones while crossing.
The ‘LED floor traffic lights’ installed by the district illuminate the pedestrian signal on the ground at the crosswalk waiting line using LEDs, allowing pedestrians who are focused on their smartphones to notice the signal on the ground and thereby prevent traffic accidents.
The ‘pedestrian signal voice guide’ activates an automatic sensor when a pedestrian attempts to cross during a red light, issuing a voice message saying, “It is dangerous, please step back.”
This helps pedestrians who are distracted by smartphones or other devices to pay attention to the signals and prevents jaywalking.
The district has installed LED floor traffic lights at three crosswalks near Konkuk University Station, Gangbyeon Station (East Seoul Terminal), and Achasan Station, which have high foot traffic, and operates 43 pedestrian signal voice guides at crosswalks near public offices and subway stations in the area.
Additionally, starting at the end of this month, the district plans to use small LED display panels attached to the ‘pedestrian signal voice guides’ to provide promotional messages for traffic culture improvement along with information on time, temperature, and humidity.
Furthermore, the district plans to prioritize expanding the installation of LED floor traffic lights and pedestrian signal voice guides at crosswalks near schools where elementary, middle, and high school students frequently walk.
District Mayor Kim Seon-gap stated, “We are doing our best to create a safe Gwangjin through the installation of various traffic safety facilities,” and added, “We ask for the active cooperation of residents in observing traffic safety rules to establish a safe traffic culture.”
