[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 8th that KT Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters has been providing 140 smartphones free of charge through the Korean Red Cross Gyeongnam Branch to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The smartphones delivered this time will be rented to overseas arrivals in the province who do not have a mobile phone or use low-function phones (2G). This measure follows the mandatory installation of the 'Safety Protection App' along with a 14-day self-quarantine for all overseas arrivals starting from the 1st of this month.
Gyeongsangnam-do is using the self-quarantine safety protection app to check health status and continuously monitor whether individuals leave the quarantine area through location tracking.
Jung Jeong-su, head of KT Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters, said, "We provided these free rental phones to help residents who are going through difficult times due to the spread of COVID-19, even if only a little."
