[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chaehyun Il) is providing a 'Safe Accommodation' for families exposed to infection risks due to the increase in overseas arrivals, offering it at up to a 50% discounted rate.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has significantly strengthened measures for overseas arrivals, mandating a 2-week self-quarantine for all entrants from abroad starting from the 1st of this month.
Also, among the 563 confirmed cases in Seoul (as of 10 a.m. on the 6th), 203 cases (36% of the total) are related to overseas contact, making local governments' management of overseas arrivals a key factor in resolving the COVID-19 situation.
In response to the increase in overseas arrivals, the district reflected the demand from residents wishing for temporary accommodations and discovered 'Family Safe Accommodations.' This is because when overseas arrivals quarantine at home, family members face a higher risk of infection due to close contact.
Accordingly, the district signed a business agreement with Toyoko Inn Hotel Seoul Yeongdeungpo Branch to support lodging for families of overseas arrivals at up to a 50% discounted rate.
Toyoko Inn Hotel Seoul Yeongdeungpo Branch (293 Singil-ro) owns a total of 379 rooms, is located near Yeongdeungpo Station with good accessibility, and opened in December 2019, providing a comfortable environment.
On the 6th (Monday), Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chaehyun Il and Hong Jimyung, CEO of Toyoko Inn Korea, signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Infectious Disease Response including COVID-19,' mutually agreeing to establish the 'Family Safe Accommodation.'
As a result, families of overseas arrivals can use the hotel at the following rates: △ Single room 40,000 KRW (40% discount) △ Economy double 44,000 KRW (43% discount) △ Double room 44,000 KRW (50% discount) △ Twin room 44,000 KRW (50% discount).
The district expects that increased hotel usage through this agreement will help revitalize the local economy.
The district plans to promote the 'Family Safe Accommodation,' thoroughly disinfect and sanitize, provide administrative support, and discover additional hotels if demand increases to alleviate residents' inconveniences.
Those wishing to stay at the 'Family Safe Accommodation' should bring documents proving family relationships, such as the overseas arrival's flight ticket, family relation certificate, and resident registration copy.
For inquiries, contact Toyoko Inn Hotel or the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, and reservations can be made through Toyoko Inn Hotel.
Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chaehyun Il stated, “Yeongdeungpo-gu has prepared the Family Safe Accommodation to prevent community infections,” adding, “It will be a great help in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and revitalizing the local economy, including the tourism accommodation industry.”
