Gangnam-gu Reports 3 Additional COVID-19 Cases, Including 2 U.S. International Students

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 31st, a total of three new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed in Gangnam-gu, including two American international students.

Jung Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, held a briefing in the afternoon and stated, "Those entering from overseas such as the United States and Europe must get tested at Gangnam-gu Public Health Center, Samsung Seoul Hospital, or Gangnam Severance Hospital within three days of arrival regardless of symptoms, and strictly observe the two-week self-quarantine period."

Mayor Jung expressed, "I am deeply sorry and sincerely offer my condolences as many are suffering and facing difficulties due to COVID-19. Especially, I want to convey my heartfelt sympathy to the confirmed patients in Gangnam who are currently receiving isolation treatment in hospitals after unexpected infection, and I pray for their speedy recovery."

He also extended words of comfort to Gangnam residents who have become contacts of confirmed cases during daily life or who are currently enduring the frustrating self-quarantine after recently returning from overseas.

Mayor Jung pledged, "As the mayor, I will do my utmost to alleviate the pain and difficulties of our residents as soon as possible by preventing local infection spread, conducting disinfection, and managing confirmed and self-quarantined individuals, so that the COVID-19 situation can be resolved early."

He added, "Recently, as COVID-19 has surged overseas in the United States and Europe, the number of overseas arrivals such as international students has significantly increased to avoid the outbreak, making Gangnam-gu, which has a relatively high number of overseas visitors and international students, a new key area of concern. How we prevent local spread here will be crucial to the early end of COVID-19."
