Chosun University Nurses Draw Attention for Volunteering Against COVID-19 in Daegu and Gyeongbuk

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Two nurses from Chosun University Hospital (Hospital Director Jeong Jong-hoon) have attracted attention by volunteering for medical service in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas, where COVID-19 cases are rapidly increasing.

According to Chosun University Hospital on the 9th, nurse Jeong Jeong-gi from the angiography room and nurse Kim Seong-yeon from the outpatient testing room recently volunteered to help resolve the medical personnel shortage and medical service gaps as confirmed COVID-19 cases have been concentrated mainly in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions.

In February, as the spread of COVID-19 showed signs of prolongation, those wishing to volunteer for medical service applied through the Korean Nurses Association, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare assigned these two nurses to be responsible for treating confirmed patients at Keimyung University Daegu Dongsan Hospital (located in Dongsan-dong, Daegu) for two weeks starting from the 9th.

Afterward, they are scheduled to return to Chosun University Hospital following a two-week self-quarantine period.

Hospital Director Jeong Jong-hoon said, “Chosun University Hospital promptly organized medical support teams to care for patients in disaster areas during the 2005 Indonesia earthquake, the 2015 Nepal earthquake, and the 2014 Sewol ferry disaster,” adding, “On behalf of Chosun University Hospital, I hope they return safely with a strong sense of duty.”

Meanwhile, religious groups and the coffee industry in the Gwangju area have recently supported various food supplies for the medical staff of Chosun University Hospital, who are fighting hard to treat COVID-19 patients in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, praying for the swift end of COVID-19.
