Increase in Effectiveness and Satisfaction of Parking Sharing Service After Introduction of Yangcheon-gu Internet of Things (IoT) System

35 Parking Spaces Behind Mokdong Middle School and Around Omokgyo Station with High Demand... Real-Time Parking Information Provided

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) plans to expand the operation of the ARS parking sharing service and the Internet of Things (IoT) system in resident-priority parking lots due to high resident satisfaction.

Reflecting the shortage of parking spaces in the area, the district started the parking sharing service in April last year to alleviate parking difficulties and improve convenience for residents.

The 'ARS Parking Sharing Service' is currently operating in a total of 540 resident-priority parking spaces, and over the past 10 months, the number of shared parking uses has reached 12,895 cases (an average of 68.5 cases per day), showing a high usage rate.

However, some opinions were expressed, stating, "It is satisfying that parking sharing is possible through the ARS parking sharing service, but it is regrettable that real-time parking lot information cannot be checked and that one must arrive on-site to confirm if there is an empty space."

Reflecting this, the district has pilot-introduced IoT in 35 parking spaces with high demand.

The IoT-based parking sharing service installs vehicle detection sensors on the floor of shared parking spaces to automatically detect parking status and provide real-time parking information. Users can check available parking spaces through an app.

Users of the IoT-based parking sharing service responded, "It is very convenient to check parking lot information in real time through the app," and "I hope it will be expanded more."

The district plans to expand the parking zones with IoT-based parking sharing service to about 500 spaces this year, further enhancing user convenience by reflecting user feedback.

Usage hours are ▲ ARS parking sharing service from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays ▲ IoT-based parking sharing service 24 hours a day, year-round, and the fee is 100 won per 5 minutes.

How to use ▲ App users can install the ‘ARS PARKING’ or ‘PARKING FRIENDS’ app to check parking information and make payments ▲ ARS phone users can call ‘1666-5014’ and follow the instructions sent via text message to use and pay.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “To solve illegal parking and pedestrian safety issues caused by the lack of parking spaces, we will further expand the IoT-based parking sharing service and establish it in daily life to create a smart city Yangcheon where residents can park easily and conveniently.”
