Dongjak-gu, Comprehensive Disinfection Measures to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Chang-woo Lee) is implementing comprehensive disinfection measures across the entire district to prevent the local spread of COVID-19 and alleviate residents' anxiety.

Following the first confirmed case on the 25th, the district deployed an emergency disinfection team to complete sanitation of the patient’s movement paths, including the underground parking lot and screening clinic at Dongjak-gu Public Health Center, as well as the patient’s residence and surrounding areas.

Additionally, on the morning of the 26th, the district disinfected the entire Dongjak-gu area, including Sadang-dong, centered around the disinfection task forces in each of the 15 neighborhoods to block further community transmission.

More than 500 personnel, including staff and residents, along with 11 water spraying vehicles, 180 sprayers, and 30 fogging machines were deployed to disinfect multi-use facilities and thoroughfares.

Special focus was placed on disinfecting areas around subway stations, main and side roads, vulnerable groups, and public facilities.

The district office, cultural welfare centers, and a total of 485 directly managed and supervised facilities, as well as 121 village buses and 4 welfare buses, have increased disinfection frequency to weekly air disinfection of common areas and daily sterilization and cleaning of contact surfaces to strengthen management.

To empower residents to enhance disinfection themselves, sterilizing disinfectants and self-disinfection equipment are being lent free of charge for up to three days to those wishing to disinfect their homes or offices directly. Residents interested in self-disinfection should contact the Dongjak-gu Disaster Safety Disinfection Task Force in advance (☎820-9435 or 9463) and then collect equipment at the situation room on the 2nd floor of Dongjak-gu Public Health Center.

Furthermore, a full investigation of Shincheonji churches in the area was conducted, with disinfection and temporary closure measures applied to the facilities.

As of the on-site inspection on the 23rd, 4 out of 14 facilities were identified as having changed business types, so 10 facilities were disinfected, closed, and posted with notices. The district plans to continuously monitor whether these facilities remain closed.

To prevent local infections through medical institutions, a cooperative system has been established with a total of 757 hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies in the area. For symptomatic individuals, medical institutions have been provided with promotional materials encouraging them to consult and use screening clinics first before visiting, and residents are being actively informed of usage guidelines.

Mayor Chang-woo Lee of Dongjak-gu stated, “Following the first confirmed case in the district, we are putting all our efforts into disinfection to block the spread of infection. Please remember that self-disinfection is the best prevention, and thoroughly manage your health by washing hands and wearing masks.”
