'Support Project for Educational Activities of Students with Disabilities' Applications Open Until the 13th of Next Month

Ministry of Education and National Institute for Lifelong Education Raise Government Subsidy Limit for Professional Education Support Personnel

'Support Project for Educational Activities of Students with Disabilities' Applications Open Until the 13th of Next Month

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education announced on the 25th that applications for the '2020 Support Project for Educational Activities of Disabled University Students (formerly Support Project for Disabled University Student Assistants)' for the first semester will be accepted until March 13.

This project supports disabled university students' mobility and convenience within the campus and provides educational support personnel to assist with learning, such as sign language interpretation and stenography. General educational support personnel assist with learning or learning activities such as lectures and exam proxy writing, as well as mobility and convenience support, while specialized educational support personnel provide face-to-face or remote support for learning or communication through sign language interpreters, stenographers, and braille transcribers.

Support is provided not only for on-campus classes but also for special lectures and employment program participation related to classes, and the same support is extended to disabled graduate students in master's and doctoral programs.

To strengthen customized learning support for disabled university students this year, the Ministry of Education raised the national subsidy limit for specialized educational support personnel such as stenographers and sign language interpreters to 1,862,000 KRW per month, an increase of 302,000 KRW from last year, and the National Institute for Lifelong Education will conduct pre-training for support personnel to improve the quality of services and education.

Disabled university students who require educational support personnel should apply to their university's Disabled Student Support Center or Student Support Department, and universities must prepare the application documents and submit them simultaneously via electronic document and project email (usd@nile.or.kr) to the project agency, the National Institute for Lifelong Education, by March 13.

Detailed information can be found at the university's Disabled Student Support Center or on the National Institute for Lifelong Education website, and for consultations, contact the National Institute for Lifelong Education University Human Resources Support Center at 02-3780-9886/9887.
