[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Hyesoo] The classical piece featured in the first broadcast of 'Hyena' on the 21st has been revealed to be the same track used in the film 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance,' sparking attention.
In the first episode of SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama 'Hyena,' aired on the 21st, the story of the fateful connection between Yoon Hee-jae (played by Ju Ji-hoon) and Jung Geum-ja (played by Kim Hye-soo) unfolds.
Yoon Hee-jae accidentally discovers in court that the woman he has been romantically involved with, named Kim Hee-sun, is actually Jung Geum-ja, the opposing lawyer in his current case, leading him to feel betrayed. Naturally, the trial also ends in disaster. Later, after concluding a settlement at Jung Geum-ja's office, he overhears a client threatening her and plotting to harm her and flee abroad.
Returning to his office, Yoon Hee-jae hesitates whether to inform Jung Geum-ja of this fact and plays a classical LP. The piece that plays is Paganini's 'Caprice No. 24,' which was featured in Park Chan-wook's 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' (2005). In 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance,' it was associated with the character 'Witch Lee Geum-ja.'
While Paganini's music plays, Yoon Hee-jae sends a KakaoTalk message to Jung Geum-ja saying "Watch out for thug knife attacks," but she does not see the message and ends up engaging in a bloody hand-to-hand fight with the client one-on-one. The inclusion of this music is thought to be a kind of homage, considering Kim Hye-soo's character is Jung Geum-ja.
The new SBS drama 'Hyena,' depicting the cutthroat survival battles of lawyers, airs every Friday and Saturday at 10 PM.
