[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics' next-generation foldable phone, the 'Galaxy Z Flip,' will feature a locking function that allows it to be held at 90 or 180 degrees.

On the 22nd (local time), IT Twitter user Max Weinbach explained, "The Galaxy Z Flip has a feature that allows it to be fixed at 90 and 180 degrees," adding, "It can be used standing like a stand at 90 degrees."

When set at 90 degrees, it can be fixed like a tripod to take photos or videos or make video calls. This locking function without a separate stand is possible because it is a vertically folding foldable phone. When making a video call using the Google Duo application on the Galaxy Z Flip, the upper screen folded at 90 degrees shows the other party's image, while the lower screen displays buttons for operation or settings. Since the front camera is housed in a hole at the center top, video calls or selfie shots are possible even when folded, and it can be switched to the rear camera.

With the unveiling scheduled for the 11th of next month, the price of the Galaxy Z Flip is also a hot topic. The price forecasts from foreign media and securities firms vary widely, ranging from $862 to $1,293, and there are recent speculations that it will be released in Europe at 1,400 euros (approximately 1.8 million KRW) including taxes. This is about 100,000 KRW more expensive than the Galaxy S20's highest-end model, the Ultra 5G model (1,300 euros, approximately 1.68 million KRW). Industry insiders believe it is highly likely to be priced in the mid-to-high 1 million KRW range.

The Galaxy Z Flip has a 6.7-inch screen when unfolded and is equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 chipset. The display uses Ultra Thin Glass (UTG), which is expected to improve display durability compared to the Galaxy Fold while addressing the issue of screen creases.
