Clinton Special Prosecutor Joins Trump's Impeachment Defense Team

[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] It has been reported that U.S. President Donald Trump will appoint special prosecutors who investigated former President Bill Clinton as his defense attorneys for the Senate impeachment trial.

On the 18th, CNN cited sources and reported that three individuals?former special prosecutor Kenneth Starr, former special prosecutor Robert Ray, and former Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz?are expected to join President Trump's legal team.

Together with existing White House Counsel Pat Cipollone and Trump's personal lawyer Jay Sekulow, this marks the beginning of President Trump's full-scale preparations to face the Senate impeachment trial starting next week.

Former special prosecutor Starr gained fame while investigating former President Clinton's sexual misconduct scandal. The person who led Clinton to impeachment is now tasked with defending President Trump. Although the impeachment of President Clinton, which proceeded due to this case, was ultimately rejected by the Senate, Starr's experience could provide significant strength to President Trump.

Former special prosecutor Ray succeeded Starr and conducted the investigation into the 'Whitewater scandal,' which involved real estate investment allegations related to the Clintons.

Dershowitz officially confirmed his joining the defense team by stating on his Twitter, "I will make oral arguments in the Senate impeachment trial."

In addition to these, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is also reported by U.S. media to be likely to join the defense team.

Meanwhile, since the Senate impeachment trial procedures began on the 17th, the process for the impeachment hearing is underway. The House impeachment managers must submit the articles of impeachment by 5 p.m. on the 18th, and President Trump's side must submit their brief by noon on the 20th. In response, the House side may submit a rebuttal brief by noon on the 21st.

Following this, the Senate impeachment hearing will begin at 1 p.m. on the 21st.
