[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] A man presumed to have been wearing makeup around midnight appeared at an apartment complex in OO District, Seoul, causing anxiety among the residents.

Especially, the residents' anxiety has increased as this coincides with the SBS program "Unanswered Questions" covering the recent serial murder case in Sinjeong-dong.

According to a tipster, the man suspected as the culprit in the broadcast was described as a man wearing makeup, including thick eyebrows.

Because of this, some residents are worried that the man who visited the apartment might be the same person as the composite sketch revealed in the broadcast.

The residents are showing signs of formally requesting an investigation from the authorities by compiling related information such as CCTV footage containing photos of this man.

On the 12th, a post was uploaded on an online cafe where residents of the apartment gather, stating that an unknown man had come to their home.

The author explained the situation, saying, "He came to my house twice around midnight, once before 12 and once about 40 minutes later," and added, "He covered his face, so I thought it was really strange and did not respond."

He continued, "But yesterday (the 11th), the man mentioned in 'Unanswered Questions' is said to live near OO Station OOOO. The man who rang my doorbell. He definitely had a made-up face and looked very similar to the composite sketch," emphasizing this point.

He added, "I saw him twice, so I'm sure. I remember thinking, 'What, is he a celebrity? Why is he wearing makeup?'" and explained, "He was not drunk and was not short." He then asked, "If anyone has had a similar experience, please leave a comment."

The resident reported the matter to the police and also shared a text message received from them.

According to the disclosed message, the police stated, "After reviewing the cafe screenshot you sent, the incident where someone repeatedly entered the wrong password trying to open the door of another unit can be investigated as a criminal trespass under the Criminal Act. It would be a good approach to compile reports from other victims in the residents' cafe and formally request an investigation."

Another resident who experienced a similar incident commented on the post based on their experience.

One resident said, "Ah, that's creepy. About 2-3 weeks ago, a man got on the elevator but didn't press any floor buttons. I thought he was visiting the next door, but he didn't get off when I did. At that time, he was not wearing makeup and looked a bit haggard, dressed in shabby work clothes. He closely resembles the composite sketch. He was not short and was rather slim," they explained.

They attached the composite sketch from "Unanswered Questions" in a comment and appealed, "The made-up face looks similar to this. I heard this man's face is on the Sex Offender Alert site, but I can't access it to verify."

Another resident also commented, sharing a similar experience.

One resident said, "My case is the opposite. About two weeks ago, late at night, I took the elevator and got off on my floor, but a man I didn't know was standing in front of the elevator, which really startled me. Even after I got off, he didn't get on the elevator and just stood on my floor, so I felt scared and hurried into my home."

They added, "He wasn't from the next-door family... I thought maybe he was an acquaintance of the neighbors. It was strange that he didn't take the elevator. The man was short, slim, and wore black work clothes," they said.

◆ The 'Sinjeong-dong Bizarre Rabbit' case... Who is the 'man wearing makeup'?

Meanwhile, the episode of "Unanswered Questions" aired on the night of the 11th reexamined the serial murder and attempted kidnapping case known as the 'Sinjeong-dong Bizarre Rabbit Murder Case.'

This case refers to two murders that occurred in Sinjeong-dong, Seoul. The victim of the third incident was kidnapped to a house in Sinjeong-dong but escaped, testifying that she saw a 'Bizarre Rabbit' sticker on a shoe cabinet, which led to the case being called the 'Sinjeong-dong Bizarre Rabbit' case.

According to the broadcast, a tipster named Kang Min-seok (alias) told the production team that after his military discharge, he worked part-time cutting cable TV wires and visited a multi-family house in Sinjeong-dong around September 2006.

The front door of the house Kang visited was a black iron door. After passing the door and heading to the semi-basement, he knocked on the doors but received no response, so he went up to the second floor.

There, Kang saw a shoe cabinet with a 'Bizarre Rabbit' sticker attached. On top of the shoe cabinet, there was a 'paper flower' presumed to have been made by children.

After organizing the cable wires around the second-floor house, Kang met a man as he was leaving the house.

Kang said the man approached him and asked, "Why did you knock on our door?" Kang explained that he was there to organize cable wires, and the man led him into the semi-basement where he lived.

Inside the main room, Kang saw many strings and said, "It felt very cold, different from a normal house."

Regarding the man he saw at the time, Kang described during a hypnotic investigation, "He looked interesting," and said, "His eyebrows were drawn like seagulls."

Later, unexpected news came from Busan. It was reported that a duo with a history of sexual assault near Sinjeong-dong in June 2005 was suspected as suspects in previous cases.

According to Detective Jung Woo-jung of the Busan Gijang Police Station, who informed the production team, the duo, Jang Seok-pil (alias) and Bae Young-ho (alias), committed two cases of robbery and rape together in 2008.

One of the duo arrested lived in Sinjeong-dong. It was also revealed that one of the victims lived near the house of victim A from the first Sinjeong-dong murder case.

Jang Seok-pil was sentenced to 12 years and is serving his sentence, while Bae Young-ho was sentenced to 10 years and was released in 2018. The production team showed Bae Young-ho's photo to Kang Min-seok. Upon seeing the photo, Kang said, "The eyes are exactly the same. He looks alike."

Subsequently, based on Kang's memory, the production team created a composite sketch of the man with 'seagull' eyebrows and began searching for him.

The production team visited Bae Young-ho's house. Upon entering the front door, they encountered ropes.

Ropes were placed not only on the floor but throughout the house. Bae Young-ho said, "I used to do manual labor with Jang. We weren't close for long."

Bae Young-ho also said, "I'm a coward, so I couldn't kill anyone. Even if someone told me I did it, who would admit it? I wouldn't even live in a semi-basement if I could avoid it."

When asked by the production team if he wore makeup or eye makeup, he replied, "I really hate wearing makeup."

Meanwhile, immediately after the broadcast, the Sex Offender Alert e-site was temporarily shut down due to people trying to see Bae Young-ho's real face rather than the composite sketch. However, it is unknown whether the person found by netizens on the site was actually Bae Young-ho.
