The "Once in a Lifetime Project," which was the first lifelong learning model in Gyeonggi Province to connect local towns (eup, myeon, dong) with universities, was introduced last year. The project pairs each lifelong learning center with a university in a one-to-one relationship, aiming to provide citizens with high-quality lifelong learning opportunities.
The "Once in a Lifetime Project" began in 2025, operating in five towns and districts, and received a great response from citizens. This year, based on its achievements, the project will be expanded to eight towns and districts. Starting with the opening of classes in Unjeong 5-dong on March 6, lectures will be held sequentially at the lifelong learning centers of each participating area.
The eight lifelong learning centers and their partner universities are as follows: Munsan-eup (Sogang University), Tanhyeon-myeon (Myongji University), Wollong-myeon (Dongguk University), Unjeong 2-dong (Seoul National University), Unjeong 5-dong (Ewha Womans University), Unjeong 6-dong (Yonsei University), Geumchon 1-dong (Ajou University), and Geumchon 2-dong (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies).
Each town and district will offer regionally customized courses that reflect the universities' specialized fields, including humanities, health, psychology, culture and arts, and international understanding. Distinguished faculty from the universities will visit each district in person to give lectures, enabling citizens to experience high-level lectures from prestigious universities close to home.
Paju City has further strengthened the curriculum by closely reflecting local needs based on the outcomes of the 2025 operations. The city plans to continuously develop this model, which spreads the universities' excellent educational resources throughout the local living areas.
Choi Heejin, Director of Lifelong Education, stated, "The Once in a Lifetime Project is Paju's unique lifelong learning model, designed so that any citizen can access high-quality university lectures close to home. By expanding the program this year, we will broaden citizens' learning opportunities and further solidify our foundation as a lifelong learning city."
