Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Shin Sangjin) will implement the "2026 Seongnam City Green Building Development Support Project" to improve the energy efficiency of old buildings and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The support targets buildings that have been in use for more than 10 years since approval. Eligible properties include: single-family and multi-family houses; multi-unit or row houses with 19 households or fewer; and mixed-use residential buildings (residential portion) with a total floor area of 660 square meters or less. However, buildings located within redevelopment or reconstruction zones, as well as illegal structures, are excluded from the program.
The supported items include: insulation reinforcement; replacement of high-efficiency airtight windows and entrance doors; replacement of high-efficiency electrical and lighting systems; creation of green roofs; and installation of cool roofs (heat-reflective rooftop paint). The city will subsidize up to 50% of construction costs, with a maximum of 10 million won per project.
Applications are open until March 31. Building owners can download the application form from the Seongnam City Hall website (By Category Information → Housing/Architecture/Real Estate → Architecture → Notice/Announcement), and must submit it along with the required documents in person to the Architecture Division (East Wing, 7th floor) at City Hall.
Recipients of support will be selected in April through the Green Building Development Support Review Committee. Construction must begin within three months of notification of selection and be completed by November.
A Seongnam City official stated, "Since 2020, Seongnam City has supported the improvement of citizens' residential environments through the Green Building Development Support Project," adding, "We will continue to enhance the energy performance of old buildings so that Seongnam can become an eco-friendly city."
