Over 100 Participants Including Mayor Jin Byungyoung and Council Chairman Kim Yuntaek
On March 3, in celebration of Jeongwol Daeboreum (the first full moon of the lunar year), Eunhaeng Village in Seoham-myeon, Hamyang-gun, held a Gosa Ritual at the ginkgo tree to pray for the peace and well-being of Hamyang residents and the village community.
In Seoham-myeon, Hamyang County, the natural monument ginkgo tree withers, and a ritual praying for farewell and a bountiful harvest is held.
Approximately 100 people, including Jin Byungyoung, Mayor of Hamyang-gun, Kim Yuntaek, Chairman of the County Council, Lee Chunduk, Provincial Assemblyman, other local council members, and residents, attended the event. They performed the Gosa Ritual to wish for safety and a bountiful harvest, and spent time fostering communication and unity by enjoying traditional folk games such as pungmulnori (traditional Korean music and dance) and jisinbalgi (stepping on the earth to ward off evil spirits).
An official from the county said, "We hope that the Gosa Ritual at the ginkgo tree will serve as an opportunity to strengthen community ties and continue local traditions," adding, "We will continue our efforts to preserve traditional culture and promote community harmony in the future."
Meanwhile, the ginkgo tree in Eunhaeng Village is designated as Natural Monument No. 406. It is believed to have been planted when the village was established and, with an estimated age of around 1,000 years, is regarded as both a symbol and guardian tree of Eunhaeng Village, having stood alongside the village's history for centuries.
