This exhibition examines how the development of communication devices, as seen through various telephones, has brought about changes in our lives and sociocultural environment.
The exhibit begins with the "click" sound of the telegraph, which conveyed messages through dot(·) and dash(―) signals.
It then provides an overview of the evolution of communication technology at a glance, showcasing representative devices from each era, including magneto telephones that required turning a handle to call an operator, common battery telephones connected through automatic exchanges, and push-button telephones where users dialed numbers themselves.
The exhibition hall walls feature a chronological display of the development of communication devices, allowing visitors to understand the progression of technology.
Of particular note, the modern and contemporary communication devices on display have been collected over many years by the donor, Choi Byungwook (former 7th president of Chodang University), and are significant as the result of deep interest and accumulated research in communication devices.
The museum plans to systematically organize and preserve the donated materials, and to utilize them in future academic research and educational program development.
To commemorate the exhibition's opening, an opening event will be held in the exhibition hall at 5:00 p.m. on March 3.
During the event, a commemorative plaque will be presented to the donor, and there will be an opportunity to share the value of modern and contemporary communication devices.
Ju Kyungim, Director of the Sangmyung University Museum, stated, "This special donation exhibition demonstrates the flow from analog communication in the past to today's digital network society," adding, "We will further expand the foundation for research on modern and contemporary communication culture, based on the donor's valuable intention."
