The creation of the Dongshin General Industrial Complex in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, is expected to gain momentum.
On February 26, Gyeonggi Province announced that the farmland conversion review by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for the development project of the Anseong Dongshin General Industrial Complex, which is being promoted as a base for the semiconductor materials, components, and equipment industry in the Bogae-myeon and Geumgwang-myeon areas of Anseong, has been finalized.
The Dongshin General Industrial Complex was designated in July 2023 as a specialized complex for materials, components, and equipment by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. However, during the farmland conversion review, long-term consultations continued because securing a balance between farmland preservation and industrial site development was the key task for promoting the project.
As the approval authority, Gyeonggi Province worked in cooperation with Anseong City and Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, the project implementer, to draw up a project plan that reflected adjustments to the size of the industrial complex and measures for farmland preservation, and held continuous consultations with the central government ministries.
With the completion of this farmland conversion review, the major administrative challenges that had hindered the progress of the project have been resolved, greatly improving the conditions for pushing forward with the creation of the industrial complex.
The Dongshin General Industrial Complex is a base for the materials, components, and equipment industry that supports Gyeonggi Province's semiconductor cluster stretching from Seongnam to Suwon, Yongin, Pyeongtaek, Hwaseong, Icheon, and Anseong. It is expected to play an important role in strengthening the competitiveness of the semiconductor supply chain and revitalizing the local economy.
Park Minkyoung, Director of the Semiconductor Industry Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "The completion of this farmland conversion review is an achievement made possible through close cooperation among the relevant institutions," adding, "We will continue to provide administrative support in cooperation with Anseong City and the project implementer so that the creation of the industrial complex can proceed without setbacks."
