Yeongam-gun and the Jeollanam-do Office of Education held a "Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Safe Construction of Yeongam Library" in the Gyodong District of Yeongam-eup on the 24th and officially began construction. About 50 people, including county residents, attended the event and took part in the groundbreaking to pray for an accident-free and disaster-free construction process.
Yeongam Library is planned to be developed as a regional hub for environmental education, operating ecology and climate programs that utilize Wolchulsan National Park as an educational resource.
The library will be built on a 5,100-square-meter site within the Gyodong District as a three-story above-ground building, with a total project cost of 19.2 billion won. Inside, it will feature a complex cultural space equipped with a climate change-specialized room, terraced bookshelves, a book stair, and lifelong learning rooms.
The county expects the library to serve as cultural and welfare infrastructure that will meet the lifelong learning needs of county residents, including those living in Yeongam-eup, and improve residential conditions.
It is also expected to function as a platform for local community activities, helping to alleviate the shortage of study spaces for teenagers and providing programs for community residents.
Yeongam County Governor Woo Seunghee said, "A library is a place where children nurture their dreams and adults continue lifelong learning," adding, "Through safe construction, we will create it as a complex cultural space where all county residents can build a happy life."
